Why Volunteers Matter

CLEW Softball, like all Little League programs, is volunteer-driven. That means we rely on the support of parents, families, and community members to help our players thrive. These opportunities include but are not limited to the board members, managers, coaches, scorekeepers ,team parents and umpires.  Whether you have a player in the league or not, your time and effort can make a huge impact!

Volunteers help us:

  • Keep registration costs low

  • Provide a fun, well-run experience

  • Build a stronger, more connected community


On-Field Volunteer Roles

1. Team Manager

  • Duties:

    • Oversees all team operations and communication.

    • Organizes practices, game lineups, and player development.

    • Acts as the primary point of contact between the team and league officials.

2. Coach / Assistant Coach

  • Duties:

    • Assists the manager in running practices and coaching games.

    • Helps teach skills, rules, and sportsmanship.

    • Ensures a positive experience for all players.

3. Scorekeeper / Statistician

  • Duties:

    • Keeps accurate game scores and stats.

    • Records pitch counts (for player safety).

    • Submits stats to league or manager as needed.

4. Umpire (Home Plate / Field)

  • Duties:

    • Officiates games fairly and consistently.

    • Maintains control of the game and enforces rules.

    • Works with the league to schedule training and assignments.

5. Practice Helper / Skills Stations Assistant

  • Duties:

    • Assists coaches with running skill stations during practice.

    • Helps players with drills and encourages participation.

    • No coaching experience required—just a positive attitude.


🧢 Team Support Roles

6. Team Parent / Dugout Parent

  • Duties:

    • Organizes snack schedules, team communication, and spirit activities.

    • Helps manage players in the dugout during games.

    • Assists with uniforms, photos, and team coordination.

7. Scoreboard Operator

  • Duties:

    • Runs the electronic scoreboard during games.

    • Works closely with the scorekeeper and umpire for accuracy.


🏟️ Field & Facility Roles

8. Field Maintenance Crew

  • Duties:

    • Prepares fields before and after games (raking, chalking, etc.).

    • Helps with field improvement projects and equipment storage.

    • May help with groundskeeping throughout the season.

9. Equipment Manager

  • Duties:

    • Distributes and collects team equipment before and after the season.

    • Ensures equipment is safe and in good condition.

    • Helps manage league inventory.


🎉 Events & Fundraising Roles

10. Fundraising Coordinator

  • Duties:

    • Organizes fundraising events, campaigns, or team drives.

    • Works with local businesses for sponsorship opportunities.

    • Helps meet team or league financial goals.

11. Concessions Stand Volunteer

  • Duties:

    • Operates the snack shack during games.

    • Takes orders, handles money, and maintains cleanliness.

    • May help with stocking and opening/closing duties.

12. Special Events Volunteer

  • Duties:

    • Helps plan and staff league events (Opening Day, tournaments, picture day, etc.).

    • May assist with setup, check-in, raffles, decorations, or clean-up.


🧾 Administrative & Support Roles

13. Registration Helper

  • Duties:

    • Assists families during player sign-up days.

    • Helps with forms, fee collection, and uniform sizing.

    • May help answer basic league questions.

14. League Photographer / Videographer

  • Duties:

    • Takes team and action photos during the season.

    • Shares pictures for league website, social media, and memory books.

    • May help create highlight reels or slideshows.

15. Safety Officer Assistant

  • Duties:

    • Supports the League Safety Officer with first-aid supplies and protocols.

    • Helps with safety checks, reports, and ensuring compliance with guidelines.
